Children and adolescents

Parents sometimes feel unable to help their children solve their problems: academic difficulties, recurring conflicts within the family, eating disorders, sleep problems, low self-confidence, stress-related conditions or drug and alcohol abuse.

Brief therapy proposes an alternative way of approaching such situations, by proposing to work with the parents.  At a first meeting, we collect as much information as possible from the parents and explore avenues for change. We then help them regain control of the situation and acquire practical skills to manage their relationship with their children.

In a second phase, we may also meet the child or teenager.  It is sometimes necessary, and every situation needs to be assessed on a case by case basis. In some cases, when the children or teenagers express the wish to meet us, we can also include them in the therapeutic process from the very beginning.

For a recent overview of the research by the Arezzo Strategic Therapy Center regarding relationship difficulties between parents and adolescents, we recommend you Giorgio Nardone's book, The evolution of family pattern and indirect therapy with adolescents.
