Fears and phobias

The extensive body of clinical research by Giorgio Nardone's team in the Arezzo Strategic Therapy Center in Italy has shown how brief strategic therapy can help relieve patients from a broad range of phobic disorders, such as agoraphobia, social phobia, claustrophobia, animal/insect phobia, fear of flying, fear of needles, arachnophobia (fear of spiders) and emetophobia (fear of vomiting).

While we all experience fear and worry to a degree, phobias can cause wide-reaching difficulties and impede day-to-day functioning.  I work with patients suffering from phobic disorders, guiding them to gradually learn how to face their fears and stop resorting to their avoidance and help-seeking strategies.

It is also possible to work with the patient's family members to help them identify how they might be worsening the patient's phobic symptoms by providing inappropriate help.

On the topic of the treatment of phobic disorders by the brief strategic approach, I recommend you Giorgio Nardone's book, Brief strategic solution-oriented therapy of phobic and obsessive disorders.
